About the event

THE LEGENDS OF SUNBURY 50th ANNIVERSAY TOUR – 75’ to 25’ – END OF THE SUNBURY ERA | MEMO Music Hall
MEMO MUSIC HALL PRESENTS A VERY SPECIAL EVENT“ THE LEGENDS OF SUNBURY.” “A FAREWELL TO THE SUNBURY ERA – 1972’ to 1975’ WITH PHIL MANNING and MATT TAYLOR from CHAIN” “SPECTRUM” “MADDER LAKE” SUNBURY POP FESTIVAL 72’ to 75’ was often regarded as a major milestone in Australian Music history.

Madder Lake played the 72, to 75 festivals and then went on to support the” Rolling Stones” on their Australian 73’Tour later that year and were the first act to be signed to Mushroom Records- delivering the company their first Gold Record with the brilliant album ‘Still Point’. This album spawned the singles ‘12lb. Toothbrush’ and ‘Goodbye Lollipop’.

Next, we have Mike Rudd’s Spectrum, arguably Australia’s most popular Progressive Rock Act. Spectrum’s Number One National Hit ‘I’ll Be Gone’, released a year earlier, had already become an
anthem with the Australian public – it’s since been covered by Australian artists from John Williamson to Lost Ragas and internationally by Manfred Mann’s Earth Band. Mike was later to record at the famous Abbey Road Studios in England with another of his bands, Ariel, who controversially returned from the UK to play at the last Sunbury in 75’.

And finally, we have the very Special Blues Giants in Phil Manning and Matt Taylor well known members of Australia’s Greatest Influential Blues/ Rock Band –Chain. Formed in 1968. The band recorded such great songs as Black and Blue (Chart No 1.) – Judgement Day (Chart No.2) and I Remember When I Was Young. (Chart No.1) Their Album “Towards The Blues” released in 1971 reached the Top Ten Nationally and is documented in The Book of Australia’s Top 100 Albums It was re-issued in 2001 to mark its 30th. Anniversary. Chain are still an ongoing band with frequent appearances at most Blues Festivals as well as Phil and Matt having their own Solo careers.

So Come , re – live, celebrate the nostalgia and great music with these three Artists that still remain today; and who were part of the so called ‘Golden Era of Australian Rock Music”.
